Jennifer Holly is now studying at Magdalen College at Oxford University
Burnfoot native and former Head Girl of The Royal and Prior Comprehensive School Jennifer Holly has recently taken up a place at Magdalen College at Oxford University to study Classics and English.
The former Royal student has always had a keen interest in Classics, but after completing a summer course in Latin, she fell in love with the subject. English has piqued Jennifer's interest since her primary school days, and fits perfectly with Classics in the study of classical reception.
Jennifer comments that she chose these subjects because “they allow for interdisciplinary study of literature, language, history, and even politics”. She also notes Magdalen College was her top choice because of “the beautiful grounds, great community and tutors, and notable Irish connections with Oscar Wilde being a former student!”.
Jennifer describes the application process for Oxford as “undoubtedly challenging, but enriching and educational, on both an academic and personal level”, but says her time at The Royal and Prior afforded her opportunities that have been “of the utmost value during the application process and at my time so far at Oxford”.
“The whole school community is delighted to see Jennifer secure her place at Oxford; we wish her all the very best in her studies and look forward with interest to see where her talents next take her.” Principal of The Royal and Prior, Dr Howard Welch said.
“The School has a clear intent to ensure all students are given all the encouragement and support needed for them to reach their potential and enable them to proceed to college, an apprenticeship or university."
