Donegal senior footballer Ryan McHugh and Bridget Molloy tied the knot last week.

Kilcar native Ryan and Bridget, from nearby Ardara, got engaged in New York on holiday in the summer of 2022 and were married at the Church of the Holy Family, Ardara, with Fr Aidan Cannon performing the official duties.

Afterwards, the wedding photographs were taken at the forestry at Lough Ekse before family and friends had a wonderful reception at Jackson’s Hotel in Ballybofey. When things finally settled down, the newlyweds enjoyed a couple of days of a well-earned break at Galgorm’s Luxury Hotel and Spa in Ballymena, Co Antrim.

Bridget studied at NUI Galway and currently works as a health promotion officer for the HSE and the couple live in Donegal Town. She is the daughter of Michael and Caroline Molloy.

Ryan, son of Martin and Patrice, is from a famous footballing family with his father and uncle James All-Ireland winners with Donegal in 1992 and his brother Mark also winning a Celtic Cross in 2012 as part of Jim McGuinness’s side.

Ryan has been lining out for Donegal seniors since 2013, is a three-time Ulster SFC winner, was the 2014 Young Footballer of the Year, an All-Star in 2016 and 2018, pictured above, helped his club Kilcar to the 2017 Donegal SFC title and will be looking forward with optimism to 2024 with McGuinness back at the helm.
