Paul McGonigle has been confirmed as the new manager of the Buncrana Senior Reserve footballers.

McGonigle served on the Donegal backroom team under Jim McGuinness in 2014, when they won the Ulster SFC and reached the All-Ireland final, and later under Declan Bonner, winning provincial crowns in 2018 and 2019.

Buncrana won the U-21B championship in 2023 with McGonigle involved and this coming season, he will form part of Gary Duffy’s backroom with the seniors at the Scarvey, alongside another recruit in the form of 2012 All-Ireland winner Eamon McGee.

“It’s a very exciting time for the club,” McGonigle told Buncrana GAA’s social media channels. “There is a great atmosphere about the Scarvey and we want to continue to build on that. We’re getting our structures at underage very much in order and are fielding two teams from minor down and still growing. Transitioning those lads through to senior level and seeing them fulfil their potential is the reason I want to get involved. I’m looking forward to working with Gary and Eamon and especially the playing group.”

McGonigle recently graduated with a Masters in Sport and Exercise Psychology from the University of Ulster. He played championship for Donegal between 2001 and 2004 and contested two Ulster SFC finals - 2002 and 2004 and the All-Ireland semi-final in 2003.
The Buncrana Development Squad will compete in the B sections of the Intermediate Championship and Division 2B of the All-County Football League.
