Injury concerns mount for Finn Harps ahead of visit of Cork City to Ballybofey

Aaron McLaughlin isn't available for Finn Harps on Friday night

Darren Murphy has some real injury headaches ahead of Finn Harps’ first League of Ireland home clash of the season against Cotk City on Friday night.

Harps scored a dramatic 3-2 win away to Longford Town last weekend while the Leesiders, one of the favourites for the First Division title, eased past Kerry FC 2-0.

Still, Murphy is in no doubt that Cork represents a significant step up in class in Ballybofey. But if the hosts are to get a result, they’re going to have to do it the hard way.

Aaron McLaughlin limped out of action at Bishopsgate early on and the club has confirmed he’ll miss Friday night’s clash, joining the likes of Kevin Jordan, Ryan Rainey and Conor Tourish on an already busy treatment table.

Matthew Mackinson, who played the full 90 minutes in Longford, is another along with Sean O’Donnell, are rated as doubtful for the visit of Cork.

"When you look back down the years of League of Ireland football, this is a really tasty fixture to start our home league campaign,” said Murphy.

“They had a great win last week in front of a fantastic attendance of over 5,000 people.  That’s a superb number of people to watch a game in the First Division and shows the size of club they are.

“We're hoping for a very entertaining game and look forward to playing in front of our home support. We showed fantastic character and resilience in Longford last weekend and hopefully we can carry that momentum forward now and get another positive result."
