Donegal boss John McNulty content with side's response to promotion disappointment

Donegal's hopes of making an immediate return to Division 1 are gone but they showed real signs of improvement from their previous loss to Tyrone in victory over Cavan on Sunday

If John McNulty wanted an emphatic response from his side after the disappointing defeat to Tyrone, he certainly got it in the remote setting of Redhills against a very inexperienced Cavan side.

With promotion hopes gone, the Kilcar native was focusing solely on his team’s display on Sunday. And he was content enough with those efforts in an emphatic 4-20 to 0-5 win.

“We were disappointed with the first half against Tyrone and while we improved in the second half, our accuracy could have been better.

“So we wanted to get a response today and that is exactly what we got. I also thought we were very clinical.

“I know where Cavan are coming from but, for us, it was not about Cavan. It was all about our own performance. We are still trying to find our feet and we are still a work in progress”.

Amy Boyle Carr continues to play with a face guard having broken her nose earlier in the season. The Glenties girl was excellent at the weekend.

“She certainly is a real battler, and she is a brave girl and is a great example,” said McNulty.

“And to have two forwards of the calibre of Susanne White and Katy Herron scoring freely is a great boost for us”.

McNulty said the whole team played well as a unit and that Caoimhe Keon deserved to get ‘player of the match’ for her contribution over the hour.

“We will now look to do the same thing against Tipperary next week in the final round of the League.

“The championship does not start until May 19. We will take a break after the league is over. But it will be full attention on that from then on”.
