Funding of €120,000 allocated to four walking trail projects in Inishowen

The projects have been allocated the funding under the Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme

Funding has been allocated for the promotion and marketing of trails county-wide

Funding of €120,000 has been allocated to four walking trail projects across Inishowen.

The projects have been allocated the funding under  the Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme. The Old Carn Road trail has been allocated €30,000 for upgrade works which will include drainage, ledging, stone surfacing and signage. Funding of €29,968 has been allocated to the creation of 2.7km trail at Umricam.

Butlers Glen near Clonmany has been allocated  €30,000 for upgrade works including drainage, ledging, stone surfacing and signage.

The creation of a new trail at Slí Croí Inis Eoghain has been granted €29,968. Additionally €30,000 has been allocated to the promotion and marketing of trails county-wide, which will involve the creation of a series of videos highlighting the extensive and attractive walks and trails available in Donegal.

A total of €267,791 has been allocated to Donegal outdoor recreation projects under the funding. The investment is part of a €4.1 million funding package for 150 projects across the country announced by Minister for Rural and Community Development, Heather Humphries.

Welcoming the announcement, Donegal TD and agriculture minister Charlie McConalogue said the funding will be key to enhancing local mountain trails, forest walks, cycleways, rivers, lakes, and beaches.

“This is great news for the county as it prepares for the tourist season. Donegal has so much to offer when it comes to the outdoors and these allocations will help to improve the unique offerings we have here in the county. The investments will serve to attract more visitors to Donegal.”
