There was no joy for Donegal boxers in action at the National Senior Cadet Championships at the weekend.

Six boxers from the county's clubs lost out in preliminary bouts.

Conan Kearney, a former Irish Boy 2 champion from St Bridget's club in Clonmany, lost out to Danny Mallon (Fr Flanagans) on a 3-2 split in a 70kgs contest on Friday.

Brain Anderson, a grandson of the former Olympian of the same name, was beaten on a unanimous decision by Mikey Faulkener from St Munchin's.

Anderson had beaten another St Munchin's boxer, Jimmy O'Reilly, in his 57kgs opener on Friday night, taking a 4-1 split.

Jobstown's Brandon Geoghegan got the better of Derryveagh's David Tennyson at 60kgs while Dunfanaghy BC middleweight Jack Boyle lost to Martin Keenan (Glen), both on unanimous decisions.

Twin Towns pair Cathaoir Keenan and Caoimhin Connolly fell to UD defeats against Carl Killyleagh (St Paul's) and Lee Largey Snodden (Immaculata) at 54kgs and 46kgs.

Raphoe BC's Taylor Parke and Nainci McMonagle of Dunfanaghy BC have quarter-finals this weekend while Convoy BC woman Kerry Brown faces into a semi-final.
