The late Alma O'Donnell was the longtime landlady at the Carrig Inn
The death is being mourned of Carrigans publican and charity founder Alma O'Donnell.
Ms O'Donnell, nee Murphy, late of the Carrig Inn, Carrigans, passed away on Wednesday, May 29, surrounded by her loving family.
Along with her late husband, Maurice, ran the popular Carrig Inn on the Main Street in Carrigans for many years.
The popular watering hole is still being run by the O'Donnell family.
Alma was also one of the founder members of the Good & New cancer charity. Alongside Eamonn and Lynn McDevitt, she was instrumental in the opening of the Good & New Shop in 2000, which helped to keep the cancer bus on the road.
“Everyone here at the Good & New are saddened at the passing of one of our founders Alma O’Donnell,” the Good & New charity said.
“Landlady of the Carraig Inn bar in Carrigans, Alma was well known for her generosity and kindness but also wouldn’t be scared to tell you how it was.
“One of life’s real characters who will be sorely missed by Lynn and everyone from the Good and New Cancer Charity Shop.”
Predeceased by her husband Maurice, sister Roma and brother William, Alma is survived by her children Michael (Patricia), Margaret (Denis Duffy, Carrickfinn), Liam (Mairead) and Murray (Patricia), her seven grandchildren, nieces and nephews and all her extended family and friends.
Her funeral Mass takes place in St Baithin's Church, St Johnston at 2.30pm on Saturday with burial afterwards in All Saints Church cemetery, Newtowncunningham.
