Buncrana LEA: Jack Murray and Joy Beard elected with contest for fifth seat

Sitting councillor Jack Murray has been elected on a huge vote while the 100% Redress vote has brought Buncrana’s Joy Beard home on the  first count

Sinn Feín’s Jack Murray has increased his vote by more than 800 

Sinn Féin’s Jack Murray and Joy Beard of the 100% Redress Party have been elected on the first count in the Buncrana LEA.

Murray topped the poll with 2,248 first preferences, passing the quota of 1,510. Beard was also elected on the first count with 1,587 first preferences.

She was followed by Paul Canning, Fianna Fáil, with 1,267 votes, Terry Crossan, Sinn Féin (973),  Fionán Bradley, Fianna Fáil (847),  Kim McMenamin, the Irish People Party (567), Peter McLaughlin, Fine Gael (499),  Niamh McGuinness, Sinn Féin (480),  Adrian McMyler, Independent (251),  Liam Mulligan, Aontú, (159), Eamon McGee, non-party, 90 and Jason Le Masurier, Green Party (89).

The result leaves a tight contest for the fifth seat as Murray’s surplus of 738 is redistributed.
