Gavin Cullen's Cockhill Celtic gave Premier Division Waterford FC a fright in the FAI Cup on Friday night
Cockhill Celtic manager Gavin Cullen said he was pleased with his side’s showing in the FAI Cup second round against Premier Division Waterford FC
Cockhill battled well but Waterford ended up winning 2-1, with goals from Gbemi Arubi and Ryan Burke after Luke Rudden had given Cullen’s side the lead. The Inishowen League champions and FAI Junior Cup holders can now focus on domestic matters as they prepare for the start of the new season.
“Apart from the result, I am very happy with the performance,” said Cockhill manager Cullen after the game. “We are in our pre-season and this is a professional team. We had a game plan and Corey McBride and Luke Rudden gave us good out balls.”
Cockhill have a full squad for the season with only Jason Breslin leaving in August to go to Canada. They have got Stephen Duffy returning as well as new signing Damien Duffy.
“First and foremost we will try to win the league and improve year on year. We will take the cup games as they come. We know that it will be difficult to replicate the success of last year but we’ll try.”
