Naomh Padraig GAA club have expressed their gratitude to their followers and visitors from Naomh Bríd following a “heartbreaking week” for the Ture-based club.
The sides met at the quarter-final stage of the Donegal Junior A Football Championship on Saturday at Maurice McMenamin Memorial Park and beforehand, Naomh Bríd captain Liam Kelly presented his opposite number Dermot Keaveney with a wreath in memory of Evan Craig.
The 24-year-old Naomh Padraig clubman had been laid to rest following a brave battle with cancer and his family members were present to see their team win on a 4-6 to 1-5 scoreline to seal a semi-final spot against Naomh Ultan.
“A big crowd stood in support of our senior team in Ture this evening in what was an emotionally charged evening at the end of a heartbreaking week,” Naomh Padraig posted. “Sincere thanks to the Naomh Bríd club whose captain presented a wreath to Captain Dermot Keaveney in memory of Evan. To everyone who came tonight, including all of Evan's family thank you.”
