Mia McNulty Gallagher and Liam Grant won gold and bronze medals in Vienna
Doneyloop schoolgirl Amy McNulty Gallagher won gold at the recent ISKA World Championships in Vienna.
The 11-year-old pupil at St Safan’s NS won gold in the -40 kg full contact category, while Buncrana’s Liam Grant won bronze in his competition.
In the final, she defeated Anastasiia Khotovytska from Ukraine in a tough contest.
A daughter of Paul and Deborah, she fights out of Strabane Martial Arts Academy and has been training up to six times a week over the last five months.
‘The Diva’ trains under the direction of Dee McIntyre, Michael Coyle and her dad Paul.
The youngster says she hopes that her achievement will encourage more girls to try martial arts and her club is striving to improve participation among females.
In the junior boys -60kgs category for junior boys 15-17, Grant left with the bronze medal.

Samir Safi from Germany took gold with Malta’s Skyler Bezzina claiming silver and Ukraine’s Markiyan Hilevych also earning bronze.
Killygordon’s Evan O’Connor placed eighth in the junior boys 12-14 -40kgs category.
Former Raphoe ABC boxer Tiernan Conwell, a native of Strabane, in the men’s categories took gold in the K-1 -70kgs and bronze in the low kick (freestyle) class.
