Defeat for Donegal trio at National Youth Competition in Dublin

There was defeat for three Donegal boxers at the 2025 National Youth Competition in Dublin at the weekend.

Carndonagh middleweight Kieran Cunningham lost out in a quarter-final, while light-welterweights David Tennyson of Derryveagh and Luke Kelly, representing Dunfanaghy, lost out in their respective bouts.

Cunningham missed out on a semi-final spot after going down on a 4-1 split decision to Reuben Aigbologo from Mayfield.

Both Tennyson and Kelly were beaten by Portlaoise puncher Louis Griffin.

In the 63.5kgs division, Griffin defeated Tennyson on a unanimous decision on Saturday at the National Stadium.

Griffin booked his last four berth when inflicting a defeat on Kelly, also via a unanimous decision, the following day at Drumnagh BC.

Twin Towns’ Caoimhin Connolly is the only Donegal man left standing.

In the 48kgs division, Connolly is through to the semi-final having been given a bye. 

Connolly will face Portlaoise’s Rico McInerney in a semi-final.
