Sea Rovers U-17 Girls crowned Division A champions

Sea Rovers U-17 Girls delivered a stellar performance to clinch the Division A Championship, securing two hard-fought victories against QPS and Gleneely to take the top spot in their group.

The first match against QPS was a tightly contested battle. Sea Rovers made their mark early in the game, with Áine Harvey breaking the deadlock in the first half.

Harvey capitalised on an opportunity with a well-placed shot into the bottom corner, giving her team a 1-0 lead. QPS pushed hard for an equaliser, with midfielders Jamie-Lee Collins and Niamh Lafferty orchestrating some excellent plays.

However, Sea Rovers’ defence stood strong, and goalkeeper Imogen McLaughlin made a crucial save to deny Chloe Barr's powerful attempt. Despite both teams’ determined efforts in the second half, the scoreline remained unchanged, securing Sea Rovers a 1-0 win.

In their second match against Gleneely, Sea Rovers showcased resilience and tactical prowess once again.

The first half saw both teams create chances, with Erin McGlynn of Gleneely testing Imogen McLaughlin, who made a key save to keep the score level. After a closely fought first half, the teams went into the break at 0-0.

The second half belonged to Sea Rovers, who broke the deadlock through a well-taken corner that Niamh Lafferty expertly converted, putting them 1-0 ahead.

Gleneely fought valiantly to find an equaliser but struggled to penetrate Sea Rovers’ solid defence. Near the end of the match, Maeve Owen sealed the victory with a precise shot into the bottom corner, securing a 2-0 win.

With back-to-back victories, Sea Rovers emerged as Division A U-17 Girls Champions. The team captain, Cora Ward, proudly accepted the trophy from I.W.L. Pro Sharon Moore.

The team’s success was bolstered by standout performances from goalscorers Áine Harvey, Maeve Doherty, Niamh Lafferty, and birthday girl Áine McLaughlin, whose contributions across the group stage were instrumental in their triumph.
