Success for Donegal athletes and Fanad U15 girls at National Community Games

The Fanad U15 Girls who won the national title

After a very long weekend, the Fanad U15 girls team finally arrived home on Monday evening after becoming All-Ireland champions at the National Community Games Finals in Carlow on Sunday.

After defeating Longford in the semi-final 8–0, they then defeated the favourites Limerick in the final 2-0.

Managers Una Sweeney and Marty McAteer said: “All went well. We were injury-free, and the team performed very well over the two games.”

Fanad Chairman Tony McCarry said: “It was a proud day for the people of Fanad and indeed Donegal. The team did very well. It was a long year for them, but great to finish as Irish champions.”

The Fanad committee - Laura Kerr, Danny and Kevin Logue, and Damien O’Doherty - were all very proud of the team.

Also, Donegal had eight athletes at the National Finals. All performed very well, but some just missed out on medals.

Once again, a huge congratulations to Rohan Ward from Bundoran on his gold medal in the Under-8 80m, Deavla Diver from Ramelton on her gold in the Under-12 girls 100m, and Caitlin Sweeney from Rosses on her bronze in the Under-12 long jump.

A big thanks to all parents and grandparents for their support all year - without you this would not be possible.
