Variable cloud and sunny spells today for New Year's Eve, with frost and any fog clearing through the morning.

Generally dry too, with just some showers moving into northern coastal areas this evening. Highest temperatures of 3 to 7 degrees, with mostly light variable breezes, becoming westerly this afternoon.

Quite cloudy tonight with outbreaks of rain and drizzle gradually sinking southwards through the night. Clear spells and a few showers will follow by morning. Cold with lowest temperatures of -1 to +3 degrees with frost and icy stretches developing. Light to moderate westerly winds will increase fresh at times along coasts.

Dry with good sunny spells for most tomorrow, New Year's Day, with just isolated light showers, mainly in northern coastal parts. Highest temperatures of 4 to 8 degrees in light to moderate northwesterly winds, fresher near coasts.
