Buncrana’s Kevin Doherty recently received his Irish FA Uefa Pro Licence.

Formerly of Cockhill Celtic, Doherty is a Coach Educator in the IFA having previously worked as a Regional Grassroots Development Officer for the Strabane and Derry area, having also managed Instistute FC.

Former Northern Ireland captain Martin O’Neill, who managed Leicester City, Celtic, Aston Villa, Sunderland and Republic of Ireland during his long and illustrious managerial career, was the special guest at the event staged at the Culloden Hotel, Cultra.

Bolton Wanderers boss Ian Evatt and former Northern Ireland international Chris Brunt, now a coach in West Bromwich Albion’s youth academy, were among those making the Pro grade, the highest level of certification on UEFA’s coaching ladder.

Ex-WBA, Bolton and Birmingham City defender Paul Robinson, now first team coach at Millwall, and Andy Waterworth, Head of the Irish FA JD Academy, were in the graduates line-up, too.

And recipients also included NIFL Premiership and NIFL Women’s Premiership managers and coaches. They were Glentoran boss Mick McDermott, Cliftonville manager Paddy McLaughlin, Carrick Rangers boss Stuart King, Dungannon Swifts boss Dean Shiels and Glentoran Women coach Gail Redmond.

Former Queens Park Rangers and Crystal Palace defender Clint Hill, currently assistant manager at EFL League Two side Stockport County, was among the latest graduates
