Planning permission has been granted for a 58-bedroom nursing home and a 10-bedroom respite care facility in Carndonagh.
Glashedy Investments Ltd has been granted planning permission for the development at Churchland Quarters, Carndonagh.
The development involves a new extension to Churchtown lodge, which is a protected structure.
The plans, which were subject to two objections, have been given the go-ahead by Donegal County Council with 16 conditions.
The nursing home will be located on the grounds of Churchtown Lodge while the respite care facility will occupy Churchtown Lodge itself.
Construction will begin in the spring of next year and the development is due to be completed in 2024. It is expected that up to forty full-time medical and support staff will be employed when the facility opens.
A spokesperson for Glashedy Investments Ltd said talks have already taken place with the HSE.
The spokesperson added that the company “and the general public are eagerly looking forward to the commencement of works”.
