Driver, 17, dies in crash in Co Monaghan

A 17-year-old boy has died in a road crash in Co Monaghan.

The single-vehicle collision occurred in Carrickaderry, Clontibret, at around 1.30am on Wednesday morning.

The teenage driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

His body has been removed from the scene to Monaghan General Hospital where a post-mortem examination was due to take place.

The scene of the collision on the old N2 road in Carrickaderry remained cordoned off later on Wednesday morning to facilitate a technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators.

Gardai in Monaghan are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collision to make contact.

Any road users who were travelling in the Clontibret area between 1am and 1.45am who may have camera footage are asked to make it available to gardai.
