A driver travelling at 118km/h in a 50km/h zone was one of the 392 people found breaking the speed limit so far on National Slowdown Day.
The driver was spotted on the North Circular Road in Dublin 7 on Tuesday as part of An Garda Siochana and the Road Safety Authority’s (RSA) national speed enforcement operation.
Gardai using GoSafe mobile and static safety cameras detected other drivers over speed limits including in Kilcock, Co Kildare, where one was driving at 109km/h in an 80km/h zone on the R148.
Other vehicles were found to be over 110km/h in 100km/h zones on the N15 in Keeldrum, Co Donegal, and N17 in Miltown, Co Galway.
National Slowdown Day runs for the full 24 hours of December 23 and Gardai say the initiative is to “promote safer driving and reduce speed-related collisions nationwide, coinciding with increased road use for Christmas holidays”.
