A risk of flooding remains in counties across Ireland as weather warnings are due to expire earlier than expected.
People in areas with weather warnings are advised to work from home where possible to free up the roads.
Status orange weather rain warnings were in place for four counties on Friday with the warnings now due to expire at 9am instead of the afternoon.
Yellow-level rain warnings are in place for 14 other counties.
Some areas were seen to have flooded on Thursday afternoon, including parts of the Dart line in Dublin where stations were flooded up to platform level.
Though there has been some disruption to travel on Friday, Darts are operating between Greystones and Howth.
But Dart, Belfast & Northern Commuter services are suspended between Malahide and Howth Junction, due to a mechanical fault with a maintenance vehicle, and there is debris and flooding on the line between Rosslare/Gorey and Wicklow/Bray.
The National Emergency Co-ordination Group said those who are in impacted counties who can work from home on Friday “are urged to do so in order to free up roads for essential services”.
It also warned that heavy rain in one county can impact on flood-prone areas in an area where less rain has fallen, and so people in counties without weather warnings in place should also take care.
The following warnings were issued for Friday:
– Status orange rain warning for Louth until noon on Friday.
– Status orange rain warnings for Dublin and Wicklow until 9am on Friday
– Status orange rain warning for Waterford until 9am on Friday.
– Status yellow rain warnings for Carlow, Kildare, Kilkenny, Laois, Wexford and Tipperary until 9am on Friday.
– Status yellow rain warnings for Cavan, Meath and Monaghan until noon on Friday.
– A yellow warning for rain for Antrim, Armagh, Down, Londonderry and Tyrone until midnight.
The Met Office warned of difficult driving conditions and possible travel disruption in affected counties in Northern Ireland.
