Flooding hits roads to Dublin Airport

A fresh spell of heavy rain caused traffic disruption for commuters and Dublin Airport passengers on Friday .

Overnight, Met Eireann issued a yellow rain warning for Dublin and Wicklow, because of further heavy rain, which was to expire at midday.

The entire country will be under a low-temperature and ice warning heading into the weekend.

Dublin Airport said flight operations were running as normal, but some roads leading to the area were closed or “trickier than usual to navigate”.

It said: “Drivers are advised to follow local diversion signage & to take extra care on the roads.”

Flight operations at Dublin Airport are running as normal.

Dublin Bus advised customers that four routes serving the airport had been diverted because of flooding at Collinstown.

Bus Eireann said adverse weather conditions and flooding has affected some roads on its scheduled services.

Several of its services in the east of the country had been cancelled or delayed.

Temperatures could fall to minus 4C in parts, with sharp frost and icy conditions, Met Eireann said.

The weekend’s yellow warning applies to all counties between 9pm on Friday and 10am on Saturday.

The agency said Friday night will be mainly dry but “very cold” and frosty with some icy patches.

It said there was a chance of a few isolated showers in northern and north-western coastal parts early on.
