Gardai have made an arrest after a man was found dead following a suspected assault in Cork city.
The alleged assault reportedly took place on Lower John Street/Knapps Square at approximately 7.50pm on Monday, gardai said.
A man, aged in his 30s, was subsequently pronounced dead at a home in Carroll’s Quay and his body taken to Cork University Hospital.
A man, in his 40s, was arrested an Wednesday morning by Gardai investigating the incident.
He is currently being held under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, at a Garda station in Cork City and investigations are ongoing.
Gardai are appealing for witnesses to the incident to come forward, particularly taxi drivers and motorists in the area at the time, or anyone who may have camera footage from the vicinity from around 7.30pm to 9pm.
