Two Icelandic nationals, a young man and woman, also died in the crash

Tributes have been paid to an Irish teenager who died in a tragic road crash in Iceland earlier this week.

The victim, named locally as 18-year-old Hannah Jane Large from Greystones, Co Wicklow, was among three young people who lost their lives when a car left the road near Reykjavík on Monday.

Icelandic media reported that the collision occurred on the Krýsuvíkurvegur road, around 29 kilometres south of the capital.

Two Icelandic nationals, a young man and woman, also died in the crash. Authorities in Iceland have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident, which has been described as the country's deadliest road traffic collision since 2018.

It is understood that Ms Large had been living in Iceland. The Department of Foreign Affairs has confirmed it is aware of the case and is providing consular assistance to those affected.

The tragedy has prompted an outpouring of sympathy both in Ireland and Iceland. Iceland's President, Halla Tómasdóttir, expressed her condolences following the crash, saying her thoughts were with the families and friends of those who died. She described the loss as a stark reminder of how "precious and fragile life is".

The deaths have sent shockwaves through the local communities connected to the young victims, with many taking to social media to pay tribute and offer their support to grieving families.

Investigations into the cause of the crash remain ongoing.
