The Safer Newbridge Community Partnership has been awarded €150,000 in funding, which will go towards innovative community safety measures.
The South Western Regional Drugs and Alcohol Taskforce (SWRDATF)said that it welcomed the allocation of €150,000 to the Safer Newbridge Community Partnership.
A spokesperson for the SWRDATF said: "This vital project, a collaborative effort by the South Western Regional Drug & Alcohol Task Force, Newbridge Forum, Tusla, and An Garda Síochána, sets a benchmark for holistic community safety initiatives."
A representative from the Newbridge Forum expressed gratitude, saying: "The Newbridge Community Forum wholeheartedly welcomes this generous funding.
"It is a testament to the collective efforts of all stakeholders involved and underscores the potential of what we can achieve together.
"The strength of any community lies in its unity, and this initiative promises to amplify that sentiment," they added.
The partnership intends to provide Community Harm Prevention Workers in Newbridge town by addressing the drivers and impacts of anti-social behaviour.
The distinctive model incorporates crime prevention through environmental design, ensuring a broad-spectrum, community-centric response.
Social Democrats councillor Chris Pender, who is also Kildare County Council's representative on the South Western Drugs and Alcohol Taskforce, said: "The fusion of proven methodologies from the Dublin Safety Warden scheme, the Community Crime Impact Assessment tool, and the Crime Prevention through Environmental Design practice makes this initiative not just innovative but promises a transformative impact on our community.
"This isn’t just about safety—it’s about understanding, collaboration, and a collective determination to create a vibrant, secure Newbridge."
He also said: "With this funding and our community's dedication, we're taking a momentous step forward."
"It's more than just safety; it's about redefining our community’s ethos, ensuring that every individual feels secure, connected, and valued," Cllr Pender concluded.
