Naas District Court was told on Thursday, November 9 last that an alleged sex offender fled Ireland with the aid of another man.

Gardaí made the claim to Judge Desmond Zaidan in the case of Mati Rahman, with an address listed as The Moyle, Prospect Hill, Finglas, Dublin 11, County Dublin.

The court was told that on April 26 last, the 42-year-old allegedly drove the unidentified defendant (who was meant to appear at a sexual assault trial at Naas District Court) up to Northern Ireland.

From there, the other person managed to get on a ferry and fled Ireland.

Gardaí further alleged that when they approached Mr Rahman about the alleged offence, he gave them false information, and thus attempted to pervert the course of justice.

It was alleged that Mr Rahman was paid to drive the other person up to Northern Ireland.

A book of evidence was served on the accused, and Judge Zaidan sent his case forward for trial to the present sittings of Naas Circuit Criminal Court.
