A defendant who appeared in Naas District Court on Thursday, November 23 last, was allegedly involved in a number of incidents in Newbridge.
The man previously appeared before Athy District Court on November 14 last, and Judge Desmond Zaidan imposed reporting restrictions on the case pending a psychiatric assessment on the man.
The accused, who is aged in his 20s. was accused of threatening three separate people with a knife in Newbridge, specifically on Eyre Street, the Main Street and Edward Street on November 13 last.
On the latest court date (Thursday, November 23 last), the defendant appeared before Judge Zaidan via video-link, as he is currently remanded in custody.
It was heard that directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) are not yet ready in the case.
QUESTIONS TO THE ACCUSED
Speaking directly to the accused, Judge Zaidan asked him if he had been seen by any doctors, to which the man replied: "Yes, I've seen two separate ones."
When the judge asked him if he was taking any medication or undergoing treatment, the man said: "Honestly, I think I just need therapy or counselling.
"I haven't been diagnosed with a mental illness before."
Judge Zaidan adjourned the case to December 7 to allow time for DPP directions.
He also ordered for a psychiatric report to be conducted on the accused for this date.
