Man accused of distracting elderly person in Kildare café in order to steal their wallet

Gardaí told the judge that €2,700 in cash in the wallet was stolen.

A Naas man has been accused of distracting elderly person in a Kildare café order in order to steal their wallet.

The allegation, which was heard at Naas District Court on Thursday, January 11, relates to Karl Boyle, with an address listed as the Peter McVerry Trust Homeless Shelter in Naas, but who is currently remanded in custody on other matters.

Gardaí told Judge Desmond Zaidan that on November 12, 2022, the 39-year-old allegedly distracted a person aged in their 70s in order to obtain cash at the Costa Coffee outlet located on the Dublin Road in Naas.

It was heard that there was €2,700 in cash in the wallet, and the money which was allegedly stolen by Mr Boyle was not recovered.

Judge Zaidan adjourned the case to May 16 in order to allow time for disclosure and election.
