A suspected gun has been seized by gardaí at a hotel in Newbridge.

It's understood the firearm was discovered by officers in a room at the Eyre Powell hotel which is currently being used to accommodate asylum seekers.

In a statement, gardaí confirmed: "Gardaí were alerted following discovery of a suspected firearm at a property in Newbridge, Co Kildare on the afternoon of Friday, 21st of June 2024.

"The item was seized and is now subject to ballistic examination."

It's been reported that the gun is a pellet gun but the incident and discovery is still under Garda investigation.
