Friends and family of Emma Flanagan from Cortown, Kells, Co Meath have issued an appeal for support after the teenage girl sustained 'life-changing' injuries from a horror car crash.

The crash, which happened while 17 year-old Emma was coming home from her secondary school on May 3rd, left the pupil with severe injuries to her spine.

Emma was seriously injured in the car accident and initially spent weeks in the Spinal Injuries Unit in the Mater Hospital.

The brave young teen, who is currently using a wheelchair, awaits a transfer to The National Rehabilitation Hospital in Dublin for further care.

Emma was described by friends as a "much loved daughter" of Paddy and Yvonne, twin of sibling Tom, "friend to many and teammate within our community".

Emma has shown amazing courage and bravery in her recovery journey so far, and the next big milestone is to get Emma home.

Significant adaptations to Emma’s house are required before she can get home. Emma's friends and family have created a campaign to raise funds for Emma and her family, with the money being raised set to be used to remodel Emma’s house to make it a wheelchair-accessible environment.

The fund also covers the cost of the medical and rehabilitation equipment, both of which are needed before Emma is allowed to come home.

The friends and family have appealed for those who can to help Emma, and have thanked the many people who have supported so far.

The link to support Emma's journey home can be found on their website here.
