Conor McGregor's massive 6-bed McMansion plans put on hold by Kildare County Council

Conor McGregor's McMansion plans have been put on hold by Kildare County Council. 

Plans were submitted by representatives of the MMA fighter in May 2024 for the demolition of the existing house on the site of The Paddocks in Straffan, Co Kildare, as well as the construction of a massive 6-bed property. 

Kildare County Council pressed pause on the application on July 8 due to the proposed home's mass, scale and length being deemed "inconsistent" with the "sensitive landscape character" of the area. 

The property also does not comply with the provisions of the Kildare County Development Plan 2023 to 2029 in terms of rural design for new dwellings. 

The proposed building - which is reminiscent of extravagent Celtic Tiger-era homes - comprises a two-storey over basement (with swimming pool and cinema) detached dwelling with part mezzanine level over the first floor, pitched roof with parapets, balconies, bay windows, covered terraces, porches and roof lights, as well as games area, bar, ancillary rooms, and ramped driveway. 

If the application is to proceed, McGregor must now submit a satisfactory "revised proposal" which addresses concerns, as well as a comprehensive design statement demonstrating how the proposal was devised and "how the overall scale/massing and design has taken account of and mitigated potential impacts the development would have on the receiving sensitive environment". 

Issues with the wastewater treatment system were also highlighted as "unsuitable".
