€38,500 to be spent on walking trails

Timmins seeks FG nomination to run for the Dáil

Cllr Edward Timmins

Some €38, 500 is to be spent on walking trails in County Wicklow. It is part of  €1 million investment set to support 517 walking trails in the country.

“Walkways and trails are a blessing for communities in Wicklow providing an outlet to get fresh air, exercise, connect with neighbours and friends and boost our mental wellbeing,” said Cllr Edward Timmins.

“We all became so familiar with these walking trails during Covid-19  lockdowns, and there is no doubting their valuable contribution to Wicklow’s towns and villages.

He said the money will be used to help  community organisations to maintain and upgrade trails.

He paid tribute to a number of groups in west Wicklow for their work on the trails and said the funding “will allow for crucial investment to be made in the walking trails, including the purchase of important equipment, or carrying out small scale maintenance works.”

It will also support the promotion of the routes as tourist attractions, which will provide an economic boost for the wider communities across Wicklow.
