Driver fled from car near Kildare Village but was chased and apprehended by gardaí

Gardaí chased after a motorists when he abandoned his car near Kildare Village recently. 
Earlier, the motorist took off at speed when he was signalled to stop by officers. 
In-car technology (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) had enabled gardaí to establish that the vehicle wasn't insured. 
A Kildare Garda spokesperson said:
"As a result of ANPR activation for No Insurance, Gardai attached to Naas Roads Policing Unit attempted to stop a car near Monasterevin.
"When signalled to stop, this car took off at speed and drove in a Dangerous manner for a number of kilometres.
"This driver abandoned this car near Kildare Village and took off on foot.
"He was pursued by Gardai and he ran out of steam.
"He was arrested for Dangerous Driving. This driver was also disqualified and had No Insurance or Driving Licence. The driver also tested positive for cannabis.
"There was also a Bench Warrant in force for the driver who was charged with Dangerous Driving, No Insurance, No Driving Licence.
"This motorist was held in custody pending a court appearance.
"The vehicle was also seized."
