A pub and restaurant on the grounds of a Celtic Tiger luxury Laois hotel and golf resort has gone up for sale as a going concern.

The Thatch pub and restaurant beside the Heritage Hotel and Golf Resort, R32NNP8, - about 10 minutes from Monasterevin in Co Kildareis on the commercial property market 11 years since it last changed hands.

The Thatch bar, restaurant and Sol Oriens function room serve breakfast, lunch and dinner daily from 10am - till 9pm. It offers live trad sessions every Wednesday night and live music every weekend.

The pub and restaurant went on sale are described by Dublin estate agents KW Castle as "a turnkey trading business", covering 250 m².

"A rare opportunity to acquire a well-established, character-filled pub and restaurant in one of County Laois' most picturesque and accessible villages.

They say that the hotel offers "ample free car parking next door" and year round "excellent passing trade" by hotel guests for the pub.

"Traditional thatched-style Irish pub with modern restaurant and function space. Heated outdoor seating and beer garden. Fully fitted commercial kitchen, bar, and dining areas. Strong daytime and evening trade with indoor and outdoor capacity. Regular live music events, sports nights, and private bookings. Well-maintained, full of character and charm."

The auctioneers describe Killenard village as being "minutes from Portarlington train station, with quick access to the M7 motorway and is 45 minutes to Dublin". They say that it is "close to GAA clubs, primary schools, walking routes, and heritage sites" in a "thriving village atmosphere with strong local support, excellent tourist and local trade".

The guide price is not published, but is available on application.

The five star grade resort with a luxury housing estate was built in the small village by Laois property developer Tom Keane from The Heath. Following the crash of the property boom, it fell under NAMA control and was split up and sold. 

The 18 hole golf course and clubhouse, along with The Thatch pub and Sol Oriens restaurant, were sold in 2014 for €2 million to an Irish consortium.  The hotel and spa were sold for €9 million to FBD Hotels & Resorts.
