Kildare GAA: Maynooth hold all the aces against Kilcock

Maynooth Niall O Sullivan lays off his hand pass before any contact from Kilcock duo of Joseph Fitzmaurice and Andrew Dalto

Three first half goals while playing into a strong breeze set up Maynooth for a comfortable win over a disappointing Kilcock side in the Joe Mallon Motors SFC Preliminary Round at Cedral St Conleth's Park, Newbridge, this Saturday afternoon.

Kilcock opened with intent with two quick points but Maynooth gradually took control and their opening goal came from midfielder Ciaran Flanagan after just six minutes.

Two more green flags were raised before the break from Paul O'Dea and Paddy Mahoney, just on the half-time whistle, and with Neil Flynn looking impressive with three points it left Ross Glavin's side leading on a comanding score line of Maynooth 3-8 Kilcock 0-4. Flynn did not resume in the second half, having pulled up during that goal just before the break.

More of the same in the second half as Maynooth continued to dominate, adding another two goals from Ciaran Flanagan (his second) and John Flattery, while Shane O'Rourke did his best to keep the Kilcock flag flying.

However it was Maynooth who held all the aces on the day winning on a final score line of Maynooth 5-14 Kilcock 0-11.

Scorers: Maynooth, Ciaran Flanagan 2-1, John Flattery 1-3, Paddy Mahoney 1-1, Paul O'Dea 1-1, Neil Flynn 0-3 (1 free), Matthew Diamond 0-2, Paddy Maguire 0-2, John McAndrew 0-1.

Kilcock, Shane O'Rourke 0-6 (3 frees), Joseph Fitzmaurice 0-2, Andrew Dalton 0-2, Eoghan Flood 0-1.
