Two would-be burglars who targeted a County Kildare were scared off by a homeowner, a garda has said.

The incident was highlighted on a KFM radio programme by Garda Shane Smyth, who appeared on the station as a guest on Wednesday, August 27 last.

He told host Clem Ryan that the crime took place on Tuesday, August 26 last in the Ballynakill area of Broadford.

According to Gda Smyth, two males were attempting to get into a property in this region at around 4pm.

However, the males were spotted by a homeowner, who also noticed that one of the two males was in possession of a crowbar.

The homeowner shouted at the males, who then fled the scene.

Gda Smyth added that it is believed that the males may have fled in a silver Honda Accord car.

He concluded by urging anyone with information to contact gardaí.

"As in all matters, your phone call will be treated in confidence," Gda Smyth asserted.

When asked by the Leinster Leader about this crime, a garda spokesperson responded: "Gardaí received a report of an attempted burglary that occurred at approximately 4pm on August 26, 2025 in Broadford, County Kildare."

"Investigations are ongoing," the spokesperson added.
