Gardaí based in County Kildare have launched an investigation into a robbery incident during which a woman aged in her 70s had her handbag stolen from her.
The crime was highlighted by Garda Maureen Nerney, who appeared as a guest on a KFM radio programme which aired earlier today (October 8).
She said that the incident occurred in the early hours of October 4 last in the Drogheda Court region of Monasterevin.
Gda Nerney explained that the woman was walking home when she was attacked and pushed to the ground by two males, who proceeded to steal her handbag and flee the scene.
"[It was] quite an ordeal, for anyone," Gda Nerney added.

She also said that gardaí are currently examining CCTV footage in relation to the incident and have also taken a number of witness statements.
Gda Nerney concluded by urging anyone with information about this incident to contact Kildare town Garda Station on 045 527 730.
When asked about the incident by the Leinster Leader, a garda spokesperson had this to say: "Gardaí received a report of an incident of robbery that occurred in the Drogheda Row area of Monasterevin, County Kildare on October 4 last at approximately midnight.
"A woman in her 70s suffered non-life threatening injuries during the incident.
"A number of items have been reported as stolen."
The spokesperson added that investigations are ongoing.
