€18m residential development gets green light for this Kildare town

Planning permission for an €18m residential development in Athy, Co Kildare has been approved following appeal.

According to Construction Information Services (CIS), An Coimisiún Pleanála has granted planning permission to Bettystown Development Limited for the 76 unit development in Tomard, Athy, Co Kildare following an appeal being lodged.

The proposed development is comprised of 10 four-bedroom, 54 three-bedroom and 12 two-bedroom storey, detached, semi-detached and terraced houses, totaling 76 units.

A single-storey creche of c.378sq.m also forms part of the plans.

Access to the proposed development will be from the adjoining Cois Bhearu to the north.

The proposed development includes for all associated site development works, car parking, open spaces, hard & soft landscaping etc., ESB substation, and demolition of all structures on site.

The architect for the project is Davey & Smith Architect.

Appeal

On the January 10 2025 an appeal was lodged with An Bord Pleanála against Kildare County Council's decision to grant planning permission for a development that consisting of 76 houses, and a creche, on a site measuring circa 2.68 hectares.

The location of the site is in the townland of Tomard, south of Cluain Bhearu residential development, east of the Monasterevin Road / Rathstewart Road (R417) and White Castle Lawn, Athy, Co. Kildare. (An Bord Pleanála Ref: 321623)
