Rathangan 0-8

Castledermot are the Osprey Hotel and Spa Kildare Reserve D football champions after they enjoyed a comfortable win over Rathangan in Manguard Park on Saturday evening last.

The eleven point win was rarely in doubt after Castledermot races into an early eight point lead after only 12 minutes.

In perfect conditions two second half goals put the icing on the win.

Impressive full forward Tadhg Whelan opened the scoring with a goal inside sixty seconds. Tadhg Jackman quickly added a point as he got forward from wing back and with only five minutes on the clock Daire Phelan had Castledermot five ahead. Rathangan were yet to have any attack of any real significance.

The Castledermot attacks were coming in waves and Tadhg Whelan should have had a second goal his low shot just wide of the post.

Jack O'Gorman found space coming in off the left and he added a brilliant two pointer. Archie Galvin extended the lead to eight.
In a rare attack Brian Kenna got Rathangan on the board before Brian Mullally added a second from a 20 metre free.

Castledermot finished the half the stronger with further points from Tadhg Whelan, with two and on the stroke of half time John Hayes got his first to leave it 1-8 to 0-2 at the end of 30 minutes,Rathangan had a mountain to climb.

Rathangan started the second half with two Brian Mullally points, the second coming after the impressive Diarmuid Conlan had set him up. They were wasteful with two further chances and Castledermot punished them,f irstly with a second John Hayes point and then with a Jordan Harmon penalty after Tadhg Whelan was brought down.

Harmon sending Adam Mullally the wrong way.Brian Mullally and substitute Rob Walsh added further Rathangan points either side of a Daire Phelan left footed effort.

Castledermot were now ten ahead as we entered the closing quarter. Diarmuid Conlan was rewarded for a few forays into the Castledermot half and although Brian Mullally added his fifth, from a free it was mere consolation.

Both sides used their full compliment of subs and it was one of those Padraig Farrell who played in Tadhg Whelan for his second goal and Castledermot's third.

The closing minutes failed to yield another score but Castledermot had this one in the bag a long way out.Alan Archbold's whistle two minutes into injury saw the men from the Carlow border 3-10 to 0-8 ahead.
