Sallins
Speeding motorists are to blame for dangers posed at a road ramp, which leads from the main road to the Grand Canal bank in Sallins.
Cllr Anne Breen told a Naas Municipal District committee meeting that Kildare County Council needs to put up a stop sign at the bottom exit of the ramp. She said any other traffic calming measures that might “discourage speeding down this ramp” should also be provided.

She was supported by Cllr Bill Clear who said speeding cars “bounce off the bottom” of the ramp road.
But KCC engineer Dónal Hodgins said a decision to postpone the closure of the road was agreed by the councillors, against the advice of the KCC officials.
“Speed is not the root problem at this location,” he said in a report, adding the continued use of the link by motorists “is the matter of most importance as the structure is not fit for the purpose of carrying (these). “
He said the road severs access across the canal bridge for people with mobility difficulties because “the gradient of the crossing is not suitable for wheelchair users and elderly pedestrians.”
