Plan to improve public areas in this Kildare town

Council asked to prioritise footpaths because people have taken falls

A project to improve public space in Athy is being planned by Kildare County Council.

At an Athy Municipal District meeting, Cllr Mark Leigh asked KCC to prioritise footpath improvements from Woodstock Street around by Nelson Street and “placing particular emphasis around the KARE centre.”

He said several people who use this facility have suffered falls. He further called for a pedestrian accessibility masterplan for the area.

Cllr Brian Dooley said people availing of other facilities in the area such as KL Leisure and the hospital would also welcome this.

According to KCC repair works have been carried out to the footpath Shrewleen Lane and talks are taking place regarding an overall public realm plan for Woodstock Street and this area.
