Details relating to a public spaces art strategy created by Kildare County Council (KCC) were requested by a local councillor last week.
The information was sought by Social Democrats Cllr Peter Melrose at the latest Clane-Maynooth Municipal District (MD) meeting, which took place on Friday, Wednesday 7 last.
Specifically, Cllr Melrose asked KCC: "Can the council outline the strategy for the conception, development and transformation of and for public spaces through public art in this MD?"
In response to his query, KCC said via the report it presented at the meeting: "KCC’s Public Art Policy informs the development and delivery of public art in the county, across all five MDs.
"The Per Cent for Art Scheme allocates one per cent of the cost of publicly funded capital projects to commission works of art, enhancing public spaces with contemporary art."
KCC also said that its Arts Service "works with relevant council departments and external organisations in the commissioning process for such commissions".
In addition, Elaine Donnelly, KCC's acting County Arts Officer, was also present at the meeting and told Cllr Melrose that she could send him further information about the strategy following the meeting.
Cllr Melrose thanked her for this suggestion.
