Four men are being questioned at garda stations in Kildare and Dublin following the seizure of drugs worth more than €4 million during an intelligence-led operation.

As part of the operation involving the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau and Revenue's Customs Service, 220kgs of herbal cannabis with an estimated value of €4.4 million was seized on Friday. 

"The 220kgs of herbal cannabis was seized by Revenue Customs Service and a further 10.5kgs of herbal cannabis, with an estimated market value of €210,000, and €10,000 in cash was seized by An Garda Síochána in follow-up searches," said a garda spokesperson who confirmed the searches took place in South Dublin and in County Kildare. 

Four men, all aged in their 30s, were arrested and are being detained in garda stations in Dublin and Kildare under the provisions of Section 50 of Criminal Justice Act 2007.

Subject to court orders, the men can be held without charge for a maximum of seven days.

Gardai say the suspected drugs will now be sent for forensic examination and analysis and that investigations are ongoing.
