Gardaí in Naas, Co Kildare recently stopped a vehicle on the N7 after observing the driver using Facetime while driving.
Upon inspection, the car was found to have two bald front tyres.
There was also a three-year-old child seated on the lap of a rear passenger, with a single seatbelt securing both individuals, posing a serious safety hazard.
This may have resulted in a risk of severe injury or fatality in the event of a collision.
A file is being prepared for a forthcoming court appearance, and a referral has been made to Tusla.
A message from An Garda Síochána Kildare cautioned:
“Avoid distractions: never use mobile phones while driving.
Proper child restraints: always use the correct child car seat.
Check tyres: ensure tyres have safe tread.
Use seatbelts correctly: each person must have their own belt.
Drive responsibly: follow road laws to protect all road users.”
