The provision of facilities for teenagers and improving biodiversity are among the plans proposed by Kildare County Council (KCC) for one North Kildare site.
The plans were detailed by KCC in response to a query by Fianna Fáil councillor Paul Ward, who appeared by virtual means at the latest Clane-Maynooth Municipal District on Friday, December 5 last.
While in attendance at this meeting, Cllr Ward asked KCC to detail its medium-term and long-term plans for the Bawnogues site in Kilcock.
In response, KCC told Cllr Ward that the medium-term plan for the Bawnogues is to prepare a plan for the further development of the site.
This would be done in order to "consider the possible location and design of additional facilities and amenities to include (but not exclusively): "parking, secondary footpaths through the site, location for teen facilities, e.g. basketball court / skatepark / pump track, and additional landscaping and biodiversity improvements."
As for its long-term plans for the site, KCC said that it intended to construct an all-weather pitch there, along with permanent storage / changing facilities, in conjunction with Kilcock Celtic and St Coca’s Athletic Club.
KCC also said that it wished to remove the existing temporary buildings.
In addition, KCC told Cllr Ward: "Any identified improvements would be subject to identifying a budget to carry them out."
