The Mayor of the Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District (MD) submitted a motion which related to the budget and schedule for playgrounds located in the MD.

Fianna Fáil councillor Noel Heavey submitted the motion to Kildare County Council (KCC) at the latest Kildare-Newbridge MD meeting, which took place on Wednesday, December 17 last.

He specified to KCC that he wanted it to provide an update "on how the budget and schedule for children’s playgrounds in this MD compares to other towns of comparable size in our county".

His motion was seconded by Fine Gael Cllr Peggy O'Dwyer.

Replying to Mayor Heavey’s motion, KCC said via the report it presented at the meeting: "The Kildare Newbridge MD has nine playgrounds, which is the highest number of playgrounds in comparison to the other MD areas.

"Naas MD has eight playgrounds, Athy has seven, Clane-Maynooth six and Celbridge-Leixlip has three."

KCC added: "New playgrounds proposed within the Capital Programme 2026 to 2028 are two in Newbridge and one in Two Mile House."

Furthermore, KCC said: "In Naas, there is one playground planned, Athy has one proposed, Clane-Maynooth has none planned and Celbridge-Leixlip has plans for one playground."

In response, Mayor Heavey said that he accepted KCC's report.
