Naas Roads Policing Unit carried out speed checks in Kilberry, Co Kildare recently, with temperatures reaching below zero degrees.
Despite the freezing conditions, 10 motorists were detected well in excess of the 50km/h speed limit.
Each driver received a €160 fine and three penalty points.
A spokesperson from An Garda Síochána Kildare stated: “Slowing down is not rocket science — it is a conscious decision.
“Speeding in icy conditions puts lives at risk, especially in residential areas. Local residents have described this roadway, located outside a housing estate, as being used like a racetrack at times. That behaviour is unacceptable.
“Be assured: this location will continue to be targeted, due to ongoing reckless and dangerous driving behaviours.
“Slow down. Think of the families who live here. Speed kills.”
