An Garda Síochána Kildare recently carried out a speed enforcement operation in Morristown, Newbridge, Co Kildare in an area controlled by an 80km/h speed limit.
According to gardaí, the results of the enforcement operation were “deeply concerning.”
Several motorists were detected exceeding the 80km/h speed limit, with the highest speed recorded being 118km/h.
A Garda spokesperson noted: “That is 38km/h over the limit – a speed that leaves no room for error.
“Let’s be absolutely clear: speeding kills. Speeding destroys lives.
“An impact at 118km/h is not a “mistake” — it’s potentially fatal, not just for the driver but for innocent road users, pedestrians, cyclists, and families.”

Fixed Charge Penalty Notices (FCPNs) were issue to each motorist, along with a €160 fine and three penalty points.
An Garda Síochána Kildare stated: “These consequences are avoidable.
“Speed limits are not targets. They exist to protect everyone who uses the road.
“No journey is worth a life. Slow down. Think before you drive. Arrive alive.”
