An animal charity based in County Kildare has released an "urgent" appeal for new volunteers.

The Kildare and West-Wicklow Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (KWWSPCA) explained: "Are you a dog Lover and have some free time on your hands to join the team of Volunteers in the KWWSPCA Animal Shelter in Athgarvan?"

"Go into the KWWSPCA website, go into 'Menu' ,click on 'Get Involved' and then click on 'Volunteers'. This will give you all the information on what is involved," the KWWSPCA added.

BRIEF BACKGROUND

The KWWSPCA was initially founded in 1940 as the Kildare SPCA, with West-Wicklow included at a later date, in order to help prevent cases of animal cruelty and to help domestic animals find a loving home.

It is run solely by volunteers and is a registered charity.

The KWWSPCA's current animal shelter is located in Oldtown, Athgarvan.
