Man 'raped his wife with people walking past,' Kildare court told

Naas Courthouse

A man raped his wife with people walking past them, it was alleged at Naas District Court.

The man, originally from Kildare and now living outside the county, faces three counts of raping his wife.

It is also alleged that he assaulted his wife causing harm and also assaulted a daughter who was a teenager at the time. It's being claimed he held a frying pan to his daughter's head and threatened to hit her with it if she did not stop crying.

Detective Garda Karen Touhy said there were a total of 15 allegations before the court relating to offences which allegedly took place between January 1, 2002 and August 2023. Solicitor Brian Larkin applied for free legal aid on behalf of the defendant and he said it was stated at a previous unrelated court hearing that the defendant had been unable to pay maintenance.

Judge Desmond Zaidan granted legal aid and adjourned the case to May 6.
